The Serious Parovirus Threat To Animals

FREE £30 VACCINATION VOUCHER TO HELP AVOID THE DEADLY & RAPIDLY SPREADING KILLER PAROVIRUS IN DOGS

In the last 12 months, 60% of veterinary practices, including Astonlee of Newport Pagnell, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, have reported cases of the Parovirus according to the CICADA, a quarterly survey to collect information on the occurrence of infectious diseases produced by veterinary drugs company, Intervet.

Mainly affecting man’s best friend – dogs, the viral symptoms can create bloody diarrhea, vomiting and possible death if not treated quickly. Any effects can cause damage to the animal’s heart, despite recovery.

Most vulnerable are puppies or elderly dogs, and this virulent virus can kill within 3 hours if untreated. Hospitalisation may be necessary, with fluid replacement by drip often an essential strategy to save a life.

The current cost of vaccinating a dog is around £60-£70 and then a booster is required once per year which costs around £40. In March, National Vaccination Month, pet owners can download a £30 voucher from www.vaccinationmonth.co.uk  and use this toward the cost of vaccination at the Astonlee Veterinary Surgery.

Dr Paul Manning, Principal at the Astonlee Veterinary Surgery in Newport Pagnell, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire has seen many cases of the virus in the last six month and comments “It’s alarming to see this virus taking hold in this county and country. There needs to be more awareness of this problem before it gets to epidemic levels, which it will do if untreated. Intervets’ initiative is fantastic, not only in building awareness of the problem, but discounting the cost of vaccinations in an effort to curb this serious disease”.
